    Day 4 of the MidAtlantic was another beautiful one, and lots of fish were trolled in the canyons -- but there was surprisingly little change in the major categories among the 131 boats fishing. That left the first day's 76-pounder on Reelin Feelin in third behind the two large bigeyes.

    The first blue marlin to make the 400-pound minimum in the MidAtlantic at Cape May and Ocean City, Md. was weighed by Anthony De Marco of South Brunswick from his Fantasea at 432 pounds. There were 135 boats out of the 157-boat field fishing in fine weather Wednesday as white marlin were abundant.

    With fine offshore weather, 88 of the 157 boats entered fished on Tuesday. New Jersey boats were represented on the leaderboard as Brian Crudeli's Reel Addiction from Pemberton took second in white marlin at 65 pounds Adam Youschak's Reelin Feelin had a 76-pound yellowfin for third in tuna and Stan Hitchner's Pez Machine from Banegat Light could be one of the big winners with its first place 230-pound bigeye tuna that's currently worth 419,503.

    The first few entries from the mere seven boats in a 157-boat field that fished in today's opening day northwester were of fish that have little chance of staying on the leaderboard -- but the last was a 75-pound wahoo on More Bills that has a good shot at holding up. In contrast to the recent White Marlin Open that produced record numbers of white marlin, there were few signs of billfish today.

    Capt. Chris DeGennaro had an encouraging report on Barnegat Bay weakfish as follows I had two afternoon trips on Thurs and Fri that produced some weakfish, Fri better than Thurs, and then yesterday morning it lit up really good. Tomorrow (Mon) is wide open for morning or afternoon trips and then Tues thru Fri I will be running Noon departures for the live grass shrimp weakies as well as some other combo opportunities.

    The Jamaica from Brielle had very good action Friday with chub mackerel plus some small blues during a drift that lasted over 2 1 2 hours. Shark River was barren this morning for the few anglers casting for blues, but I did have a medium-sized chopper jump over my pencil popper.

    Bob Matthews weighed the largest fluke of the season brought into Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina -- a 13-pound, 5-ounce doormat caught by Ed Rumsby of Bradley Beach at the Sea Girt Reef on a chartreuse Gulp Grub. Ambrose produced another 18-inch fluke along with quite a few 17-inchers before he switched to light tackle casting for small blues that were popping up in the bay.

    420 million in last week's White Marlin Open at Ocean City, Md. -- which is also a satellite port for the MidAtlantic. The Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association's Junior Mates Program had its last official class session on Thursday.

    Vinnie D'Anton caught one small blue on a Chug Bug, but had his 20-pound leader broken twice by unseen fish There was better news on small blues for the Shore party boat fleet. Matt Slobojian reported from Jim's Tackle in Cape May that Fluke fishing picked up last week on the reefs although the wind kept a lot of boats at the dock.

    Adam La Rosa reports his Canyon Runner fleet got back into bigeye tuna Monday night with multiple catches being the norm. Unfortunately that was after the White Marlin Open when Canyon Runner couldn't find a big money bigeye, but went one of two releases on blue marlin hits, and five of 10 on white marlin.
